Removing the TTY Windows (Black Screen)

Double click on My Computer
Double click on Dial Up Networking
Right click on the WCN icon (or whatever they named the dialer)
Click on Properties
On the General tab, click on the Configure button
Select the Options tab
Uncheck the boxes for Bring up terminal window before/after dialing
Click on OK
Select the Server Types tab
Ensure that the Type of Dial Up Server is set to PPP:Windows95, NT, Internet If it is set to SLIP, you will get a Terminal window
Click on OK
Close Dial Up Networking
Close My Computer
Have the customer connect

Clearing the URL History

Navigator on Windows 3.1x    Navigator on Windows 95/98    Communicator

Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Windows 3.1x

Close Netscape
In the Main Program Group, double click on the File Manager
Select the C: drive
Click on File
Click on Search
Type netscape.ini for the file name and click OK
In the search window, double click on the netscape.ini file
The file should open in Notepad
Look through the file and find the section for URL History
There will be several lines with URL1=(some web address)
 URL2=(some web address)
Delete everything after the = on those lines
Close Notepad and answer Yes to save the changes
Close the File Manager

Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Windows 95/98

Recommend caution on this process, because it requires editing the system registry
Close Netscape
Click on the Start button
Click on Run
Type in regedit and click OK
Double click on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder
Double click on the Software folder
Double click on the Netscape folder
Double click on the Netscape Navigator folder
Double click on the URL History folder
On the right side, you can delete all the lines except Default
NOTE: Deleting Default will corrupt Netscape and will require a software reload
Close the Registry Editor

Netscape Communicator 4.0x and Windows 3.1/95/98/NT

Open Netscape
Click on Edit
Click on Preferences
Click on the Clear Location Bar button
Click on OK to confirm the deletion
Click on OK at Preferences
Check the Location bar to see if it is actually empty. The button works on about 1 in 4 computers
If it doesn't, close Netscape
Click on the Start button
Click on Programs
Click on Accessories
Click on Notepad
Click on File
Click on Open
Change the Files of Type from *.txt to All Files
Starting from the C:, double click on the Program Files folder
Double click on the Netscape folder
Double click on the Users folder
Double click on the User1 folder (or the username)
Double click on the prefs file
Read down until you find the lines like user_pref("browser.url_history.URL_1", "http://www.wcc.net/");
You can delete the entire line if it says url_history
Close Notepad and answer Yes to save the changes

Clearing the Browser Cache

Navigator on Windows 3.1    Communicator on Windows 3.1    Navigator on Windows 95/98    Communicator on Windows 95/98    Explorer 3.0 on Windows 95/98    Explorer 4.0 on Windows 95/98

Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Windows 3.1

Open Netscape
Click on Options
Click on Network Preferences
On the Cache tab, click the button for Clear Disk Cache
Click OK to confirm the clearing
Click OK to exit the Preferences window
       -OR-
Close Netscape
Open the File Manager
Double click on the Netscape folder
Double click on the Cache folder
Click on any file on the right side, one time
Click on File at the top
Click on Select Files
Click on Select
Click on Close
Hold down the Control (CTRL) key and click on time on fat.db (It should be the first file listed.) That should deselect that one file.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard
Answer Yes to confirm the file removals.
Close the File Manager

Netscape Communicator 4.x on Windows 3.1

Open Netscape
Click on Edit
Click on Preferences
Click on the + sign beside Advanced
Click on the Cache line
Click the button for Clear Disk Cache
Click OK to confirm
Click OK to close the Preferences windows
       -OR-
Close Netscape
Open the File Manager
Double click on the Comm folder
Double click on the Users folder
Double click on the folder inside that one (commonly user1, default, or username)
Double click on the Cache folder
Click on any file on the right side, one time
Click on File at the top
Click on Select Files
Click on Select
Click on Close
Hold down the Control (CTRL) key and click on time on fat.db (It should be the first file listed.) That should deselect that one file.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard
Answer Yes to confirm the file removals.
Close the File Manager

Open Explorer
Click on View
Click on Options
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Settings button
Click on the Empty folder button
Click on OK to confirm
Click on OK to close the Options
